About Cherlyn...
Cherlyn received her Master of Music from the Saint Louis Conservatory of Music, and her Bachelor of Music from North Park University in Chicago. She is currently on faculty as Instructor of Violin and Viola at Northwest University in Kirkland; works with the Maple Valley Youth Symphonies, directing the Elite Strings, coaching the MVYSO violins, and conducting the Debut Orchestra; and is the ongoing Strings Clinician for the Christian Musician Summit. Her past positions include faculty positions at Kenyon College, Jefferson Academy of Music (Chamber Music), as well as several of the largest community music schools in the country, including Merit Music Conservatory and MacPhail School for the Arts. Her private students have won competitions, gone on to be performers, teachers, recording engineers, worship leaders, and above all, people who enjoy making music!
Cherlyn has performed extensively throughout the United States and across Scandanavia. She is an active performing and recording artist, and worship leader in the Pacific Northwest. She has performed with Amy Grant, Phil Keaggy, Michael W. Smith, Natalie Cole, Yanni, and many others. Visit www.CherlynMusic.org to find out more.
Cherlyn brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to her students. With a strong classical foundation, Cherlyn also has much experience in Celtic and contemporary styles, as well as Improvisation, and playing with a band. Her special niche is teaching improvisation for worship, for both string players and pianists. Cherlyn is also a published composer and arranger; she arranges all of her music for her own concerts. She is a member of ASCAP, and of the American String Teachers Association.
With all of this, you'll find a teacher who truly loves to teach and mentor her students. And Cherlyn's students greatly enjoy being a part of her studio! They have opportunities to perform within the community, and use their improvisational skills in worship settings. Cherlyn believes that it is important to build a strong foundation of technique, and that expression is the key to playing well at every level.
Cherlyn has a private studio in Issaquah, and a private home studio in Maple Valley. In addition, she offers various workshops at different times throughout the year. Check out our "Events" page to find out what's happening next!
